Making Time

Why is it such a struggle to find time to spend with the creator of time itself?

It is easy to find the time to scroll through social media, to find time to catch up on your favorite show on Netflix, hang out with friends, drinking coffee or the demands of homeworkdealines. So why is it such a struggle to find time to spend to spend with the creator of time itself?

We live our everyday lives through scheduling, marking calendars with dates and times of what appears important to us, set our priorities according to our wants or possibly needs. But rarely do we remind ourselves to make time to spend with the Lord. Jesus himself would carve time away to spend with his Father. He basically had three years to share his testimony and faith with the world and yet it was a priority to spend personal time alone, praying. Countless times throughout the Bible, Jesus was found praying by himself.

“And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.” –Mark 1:35

“And after he dismissed the crowds, he went up to the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone.” –Matthew 14-23

Jesus is the perfect example of creating time, even through being persecuted, preaching, traveling constantly being surrounded by people. He would find himself alone, even intentionally getting away for quiet time. The Bible was written through the breath of the Lord. We call for wisdom, we pray for understanding, and ask for answers. We look for signs for those prayers to be answered yet we are so blind to the fact that everything we look to, ask for, and pray about, every answer we long for is written. It is written in a wonderful book called the Bible.

So why do we not prioritize time to read this wonderful book?

Next to the verse that talks about what to do after you finish scrolling through Facebook it says “But when you go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is unseen. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”(Matthew 6:6) We should never allow our praising, reading and living the word become convenient, instead it should be intimate and personal. I’m just as guilty of neglecting this duty as anybody. If you were to forever wait for the ‘perfect time’ to sit down, if we only waited for peace and quiet to open the Bible, that time may never come.

‘But whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.” We not only need to study and read His word; we must learn to live it. Everyday in our lives, we have the to opportunity to speak with love, live courageously, kindly, and act gently. There will never be an excuse to override your actions, let us live boldly in the love of Christ. Let us long for his words and guidance, allow us to crave scripture and place it in our hearts that we make it a habit to read.

Love,
